Upvc Spray Painting Can Transform The Look Of Your Home!
Does Spraying Painting Upvc Work?
The straightforward answer is, yes spraying painting Upvc works. We can spray paint all types of Upvc windows, doors and conservatories to change the colour or refresh your existing colour. The coating should last approximately 10 years or more so long as it’s professionally applied, and care is taken.
The process of spray painting Upvc is not a simple task. You could pick up a spray paint cannister and try it yourself but we do not recommend it. To get the perfect finish to your Upvc windows, doors and conservatory needs a professional and the correct equipment. Y
If the aim of spray painting Upvc is to change the colour convincingly so that the Upvc appears to have been manufactured in the new colour, the paint/coating system has to be professionally applied using industrial-grade spray painting equipment. This is the only way to achieve a flawless factory finish.

How Well Does Upvc Spray Painting Work?
Upvc spray painting works by bonding with the UPVC on a molecular level. Plastic paints that only adhere to UPVC are prone to coming away over time, causing flaking, peeling, cracking, bubbling and other imperfections.
The reason for this is Upvc has resins in the plastic that bleed or leak over a period of time. Paint that only adheres to Upvc will come away but paint that bonds with it on a molecular level will not come away or flake off.

Upvc Paint Flaking Failing and Fading
With Upvc painting becoming more and more popular in the UK its no surprise we are seeing more Upvc paint flaking, failing and fading within a year or two. Many home owners are left feeing angry, dissatisfied and more than anything out of pocket after having to pay more of their hard earned money for a professional to put the work right. We have recently been asked to take a look at another companies work in Gateshead.
The windows and doors below where sprayed before being installed 2 years ago, within that time the paint has failed at a rapid rate, leaving this beautiful property’s windows and doors looking like worn and tired. Upon arrival we could not believe the state the Upvc was in, we could clearly see the coating which had been used had no UV resistance from the sun. With the windows being anthracite grey, which is a dark colour they attract the sun, which in a short period of time has broke down the paint leaving them looking as they do below.
Long Lasting Upvc Spray Painting Colours
We talked the customer through are process and the benefits of products we use. The Upvc Paint we use is extremely colour stable and UV resistant which makes it hold its colour, without fading over time. Because of the smooth shiny surface on Upvc windows and doors and the expansion properties of plastic, normal paint will not adhere to its surface effectively, this will cause the coating to peel and crack over time. This is one of the reasons paint is failing on Upvc all around the country. Incorrect products used and a lack of knowledge.
By doing our research and trialling many Upvc paint products in our workshop we have settled with using a product called Selemix which is a 2k Acrylic Topcoat. A little on Selemix our PVC painting choice. Selemix Direct is a solvent based 2 pack polyurethane coating formulated to be applied direct onto a wide range of substrates without the use of a primer and is perfect for application on Upvc, plant equipment, agricultural equipment, cars, trucks, garage doors, cast iron, glass splash backs, shelving plus many more Selemix Direct offers great adhesion on a wide range of substrates such as bare steel, aluminium, galvanised steel, fibre reinforced plastic, light alloys, phosphate steel, blasted steel and previously painted/powder coated surfaces.
By adding an additional additive it can be applied to smooth surfaces such as glass making it ideal for creating glass splash backs in kitchens, bathrooms, bars and nightclubs etc. We started the work on the failed Upvc in August 2021. Arriving on site the first thing we do is protect the glass and all surfaces around the windows to ensure we don’t damage or get any over spray on the property
After masking up we spent time going around all the plastic cleaning it down removing any dirt and grime and removing any silicone, PAINT WILL NOT ADHERE TO SILICONE. Once we are happy the surface is clean we then move on to preparing the Upvc for paint by sanding all the areas. We Make sure the whole surface is keyed so the new paint can bond, failing to prepare is preparing to fail!
Then moving on to the paint, applying 2 -3 coats of Selemix, building up the coats. The pvc paint we use normally are touch dry within 10-15 minutes in the right temperatures. Once we are happy and the coating has completely dried we can remove all of the tape and protection etc. The last but most important part of the job, re applying a high quality colour matched silicone. Failing to remove and replace the silicone in time will 100% lead to paint failure. This is one of the most skipped steps we see in our trade. More then likely one of the reasons your seeing paint flaking or failure on windows and doors.
